As she is about to leave for an audition, her mother learns that the process has been going on all night and calls her back home to rest before she can go on. The next day, instead of going to school, the girl gets a call from the studio saying that they would like her to return as part of their company as soon as possible. In order to do so, she must sit for three dance tests 48 hours apart with only one day off in between those exams. The chief of the studio, Mr. Tan, is shown recruiting her and her mother against the girl's will. The girl and her mother leave for the first dance test at 2:30 a.m., and after doing poorly on the first set of steps, they go to sleep. When they awaken, it is 8:00 a.m., and she must go to another dance test immediately. The next day, she performs well on the second set of steps by memorizing them then goes home to rest again before the third set of steps that must be performed at 4:30 p.m.. She performs poorly on these third steps, and she is sent home without being advanced to the next round. After a few days of unsuccessful attempts to get another call from the studio, she tries yet again. This time, she gets a call from a different studio with a very difficult set of steps to memorize in two days. When she returns from that test, it is 5:30 p.m., and her mother has prepared dinner for her. Her mother tells her that if she does not do well on the next level of this audition process, then they will go back home and try again later. The girl goes to rest again before going for this next audition test at 8:00 p.m.. The next day, she passes the test and is told to come back a week later for a second round of tests. She is very excited about this test and immediately takes her mother to the studio. This time, she finds the studio much bigger from her first visit. Her dance teacher is very nice and finds it hard to believe that she has been dancing for only three years. He finds that he has not seen her dance before, but finds that there is something special about her dance style. She performs very badly on this test, and Mr. Tan says that if she does not pass this round of tests, then they will have to go home and try again another time in a few months' time. Mr. Tan also says, "There are other studios out there, and we may let you go to another one. Why don't you start your career as a dancer as soon as possible. I'm sure that we will call you again one day." The next day, she performs painfully on the second round of steps and is then told that her last test has been moved up to the following morning. She goes to sleep immediately and wakes up at 1:00 a.m., and there is no breakfast or supper planned for her at home.
